ING is looking for a Business Manager of Global Chief Data Office
We are looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic and hands-on Business Manager to support the global CDO. The Business Manager of CDO reports directly into the CDO of the Bank and is part of the leadership team.

As a technology enabled and digital-led bank, the creation and usage of data sits everywhere. Data is of critical importance for measuring risk, performance and decision making. As such, we need to ensure our data is complete, accurate and traceable and protected [i.e. safe and exclusive]. The global data organisation acts as a first line gatekeeper to secure adequate data chains, collaborating with all functions, business lines and countries within the Bank. Chief Data Office (CDO) is therefore a pivotal organisational unit actively collaborating with all functions, business lines and countries within the Bank.
Job description
As a Business Manager you will take on a wide range of responsibilities, serving as the “right hand” of the CDO in his/her daily responsibilities. You will operate on a strategic, tactical and operational level, handling everything from acting as an advisor, preparing management meetings, organizing offsites, drafting key communication and coordinating key organizational transformations in the domain. You will also be the linking pin for key partners and stakeholder. Together with the CDO you ensure targets are met. To this end you contribute to the strategic planning and steering, take charge of the business execution as well as domain-specific communication processes.
We expect you to
- Take wide range of responsibilities by serving as the right hand of the CDO in his/her daily responsibilities
- Focus on talent management and staffing across the full CDO domain explicitly including the HUBS
- Ensure targets of CDO are met by contributing to the strategic planning and steering, take charge of the business execution and financial control as well as domain-specific communication processes
- Be the linking pin for key partners and stakeholder and contribute to strategic discussions on behalf of the CDO
- Operate on a strategic, tactical and operational level, handling everything from acting as an advisor, preparing management meetings, organizing offsites/townhalls, drafting key communication and coordinating the hiring process
- Lead and manage strategic discussions and escalation with the CDO MT and manage external demands as a gatekeeper of the organization
Your competencies
This position provides a broad insight across the global ING organization and requires someone who combines common sense, curiosity and maturity with excellent judgment, discretion, and integrity. The ideal candidate is a self-directed executor who helps orchestrate progress effectively in front of and behind the scenes. Strong communication skills are a must as well as being comfortable with ambiguity and high work pressure. Because you never shy away from a challenge, you take the wheel in the planning and coordination of initiatives and projects and act as the linking pin across domains.
- Excellent stakeholder management
- Ability to bring structure in an ambiguous and unstructured environment and simplify complexity without losing essence
- Understanding of dynamics of a global organisation, both between Lines of Business/ Products/Functions and between HQ and business units
- Practical knowledge of HQ decision making processes
- Wide personal ING network including senior management
- Drive and manage large change programs in an international context with complex business, cross-functional and technical content
- Focus on delivery through collaboration, ability to bring people together to work towards the same purpose
- Drive complex Data issues to a conclusion in close collaboration with Tribes
- Ability to make decisions and take accountability and responsibility for the outcome
- Coach more junior team members, optimize by working in collaboration
Your work environment
Data sits everywhere in the Bank, hence the CDO organization is crucial for ING to succeed. Knowledge of the Bank's products, latest regulations/legislations, accounting principles, technology solutions and excellent stakeholder management skills are required to be able to adequately act, anticipate, comment, advice on and respond to ongoing and upcoming changes.
Required skills and experience
- Education at University with a Master degree in a related study (e.g. Business Administration, Information Management)
- Proven record of relevant change execution experience preferably with international exposure
- Proficient expertise in driving and steering multidisciplinary initiatives
- Up-to-date understanding of IT processes and systems within the bank
- Competent knowledge of Banking/Data is a plus
- A personality and the capabilities to function effectively and independently
- Excellent level of English
