Engineering trainee/QA trainee

Role description: Mechanical engineer

Short description:

The mechanical engineer is appointed by OPW FTGE for the cost effective and timely execution of mechanical (new) product (re) engineering and identifying potential suppliers. This includes activities in relation to mechanical parts, (sub)assemblies, accessories, casings, fixtures, tools, equipment, etc..

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and improve traceable development operational processes, compliant to process and product related legislation and standards, e.g.:

• Machine directive (06/42/EG),
• PED (Pressure equipment Directive; 97/23/EG),
• IECEx/ ATEX (Explosion safety; 94/9/EG),
• Business process (ISO 9001:2008).

• Manage the new/ re,- development process, defining criteria to CE or alternate compliance, translating criteria into development plan and planning.

• Observing (new/ existing) product development patents and trade marks.

• Maintain and improve the development environment and operations personnel abilities/ competences.

Authority:

• All authorisations are referenced to the Dover corp. Op. Co. authorization schedule.

• Advise OPW FTGE management to technology and LDS&G related developments driving (new) product/ production process developments.

• Advise/ decide on corrective/ preventative measures with reference to pending/ foreseen quality issues. This may include functionality, performance, production effectivity, etc.

• May communicate and decide on actions with notified bodies conc. type approval status investigations, type approval related production process compliance and technical implications.

Tasks:

• Perform engineering duties, encompassing the complete design process; completion of customer requirements, scope validation, including project planning, design calculations, risk asessments, engineering drawings, selection of materials and components, defining BOM’s, etc.

• Communication with regard to product design/ development/ type approval/ test and inspection; may include customer/ notified body/ alternate Dover corp. locations, etc.

• Informing senior management (pro-actively and timely) concerning development traject progress and status; including Timing/ Costing/ Expenditures & Budgets.

• Periodic reporting to engineering manager concerning active development progress.

• Supporting other OPW FTGE disciplines; eg. SC/ PLCM/ TRC.

• Observes proper compliance to safety rules, advises co-workers if required.

• Identifies/ reports improvement opportunities/ ensures work-environment neatness.

• ) Note: Specific alternate electrical/ electronic/ mechanical engineering expertise may be required to ensure product compliance. It is the engineers responsibility to notify the engineering manager requesting adequate engineering support on other expertise.
