The Role
Our ideal candidate is one who loves storytelling and has the ability to define and execute the strategy for the SSA series and film slate. As part of the SSA scripted series and film team, you will identify, shape, and deliver commercially successful shows that have a broad appeal, bring joy, and help grow our member base. You will have a strong sense of editorial judgment, a regional sensibility, and the ability to guide a project from pitch/idea to production, to post-production and launch. You will have a wide network of key players/stakeholders in the African market/industry, with a key focus on South Africa, including Directors, Producers, Editors and On-screen talent.
You will have the ability to make data-informed decisions in collaboration with both content strategy and cross-functional partners. Be a self-motivated, proactive person who thinks fast on their feet and is both flexible and adaptable. This is a demanding and fast-moving role that requires excellent judgment and initiative. You should possess the ability to juggle multiple and diverse responsibilities across projects at varying stages of development. They should be judicious, have keen attention to creative detail, with excellent problem-solving skills. Above all, you should be self-aware, confident, trustworthy, conscientious, motivated and strive for excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
The Manager, Scripted Series & Film Africa, is a key team member who will play a critical role in developing creatively excellent shows and building a steady programming pipeline in line with the needs of the Africa slate. They will also partner with Production companies from development to delivery of our series and Films and work with other cross-functional colleagues on greenlit projects.
Contribute to a well-balanced slate that complements the wider Africa content slate.
Be the creative leader, evaluating ideas and giving creative insights and feedback on ideas at all stages with the aim of delivering creatively excellent shows that will bring joy to our members.
Be an effective collaborator with our producing partners, using previous experience in producing creative, excellent shows in areas such as talent relations.
Working collaboratively with Netflix teams, including Production Management, Marketing and PR.
Actively search for new ideas, including but not limited to leveraging existing relationships and building new relationships with Producers, Production Companies, and Talent.
Knowledge share across EMEA teams on creative wins, learning and best practices.
Experience:
Exceptional interpersonal skills, adept at cultivating relationships internally and externally, serving as a trusted partner and ambassador for Netflix.
Functional Expertise: Demonstrated expertise as a functional specialist in scripted series and Film within the SSA market.
Media Landscape Insight: In-depth knowledge of the African media landscape, with strong knowledge of the industry, coupled with a robust network within the creative community, encompassing both above and below-the-line talent.
Editorial Experience: Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, simultaneously guiding and overseeing multiple projects across various development and production phases – from evaluation to delivery.
Talent Development: Genuine interest and discerning eye for emerging talent, showcasing a commitment to nurturing and promoting fresh voices.
High tolerance for change and a capacity to deliver results in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills: ensuring effective collaboration and understanding.
