(Senior) Architect OSS Supervision - 3GPP NRM & Satellite RAN Orchestration, IRIS2
ProgramME Description
IRIS2 is the new European Union secure satellite constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States. In addition, as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while benefiting from ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connectivity dead zones.
SES – together with other consortium partners and core members – has been selected by European Commission to build and to operate the IRIS2 multi-orbit satellite constellation.
As the project enters its next phase, our team is expanding to support the development of future services and products enabled by the IRIS2 system. We are now seeking skilled professionals to help shape the service provisioning landscape and ensure the successful deployment of cutting-edge satellite connectivity solutions.
ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
We are seeking an OSS Architect to design and model the supervision architecture for a cutting-edge 5G NTN system based on a MEO satellite constellation. The candidate will serve as the NRM expert, responsible for modeling the CU/DU split architecture of gNBs onboard satellites using 3GPP-compliant Network Resource Models (NRMs) as defined in the TS 28.x series.
The candidate will co-drive the design of the Mission Control Center (MCC) component, which remotely orchestrates Mobile Xn configuration, telemetry ingestion, and traffic steering across Optical Inter-Satellite Links (OISLs). They will work together with the MCC software developer to ensure supervision logic is accurately implemented and visualized.
As a member of an agile project organization, you will be expected to bring a flexible way of working and an adaptive mindset to a dynamic development environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS
- Model the onboard satellite gNB network using 3GPP NRMs, specifically:
- CU/DU functional split (NRM: TS 28.541 / 28.562 / 28.622)
- Transport and slice-level supervision (TS 28.554, TS 28.557)
- Capability to produce high end software architecture documents and being familiar with the C4 methodology for reporting and communicating architecture diagrams and decisions
- Define how the MCC reacts to OISL load, link status, or failures, based on telemetry KPIs.
- Provide Software Design Document of the OISL Simulator
- Provide definition of the ICD of the OISL Simulator
- Document the necessary input/output of the OISL Simulator
- Collaborate with the simulation engineer to integrate these models into a working prototype.
- Provide clear C4 Diagrams of the architecture of the the OISL simulator
- Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle processes
COMPETENCIES
- Ability to work independently and with limited supervision in complex environments, e.g. project or matrix organizations
- Flexibility and adaptability in response to changing project requirements and environments
- Ability to think strategically and align project goals with organizational objectives
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of 3GPP specification and relevant standards
- Experience working with telco companies and have designed and built software for telco companies
- Communication skills to share the broader design principles with more junior members
- Capability to organize and drive a small team of software engineers
- Mastery of 3GPP TS 28.x series (especially NRM for CU/DU: TS 28.541, 28.622, 28.554)
- Deep knowledge of RAN architecture (CU/DU/DU pool, Xn management)
- Familiarity with ORAN SMO concepts and O1/O2 interface supervision
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in computer engineering or software engineering or like field (a combination of experience and education will be considered)
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in Software Design and Analysis
- Experience with OSS, RAN orchestration, or 3GPP-compliant supervision systems
- Understanding of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) is a strong asset
- Comfortable with modeling complex systems using C4
- Fluency in English, any other EU language is considered an asset
OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS
- Eligibility for ESA/EU SECRET personnel security clearances is essential. Candidates must be prepared to undergo a security clearance procedure, as this position may require holding such clearance
- Willing to work at least 60% onsite from office
- Travel as required for project realization purposes
