An excellent opportunity awaits a methodical and inquisitive individual to join PetroChina International (Netherlands) Company B.V. a dynamic, high growth Energy Trading Company as a Trading Settlements Analyst in our Rotterdam (Netherlands) office.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Netherlands, the Trading Settlements Analyst will be focal in our on-going design, implementation, maintenance and operation of our financial processes and internal controls related to payments and settlements.
The primary product you will be working with is Crude Oil products however will get exposure to LNG, Refined Products, (Bio) Marine Fuel and Petrochemicals via our London Office Settlements team. Therefore, having previous knowledge with the commodity Crude Oil or any of the products described will be distinctly advantageous. However, if not, what is essential is that you have had good exposure to the full trade life cycle specifically invoice creation, distribution, reconciliation and settlement of both physical and financial trading activities, which for us covers European and African territories.
The role carries a great deal of autonomy and accountability and is suited to someone with previous Trade Settlement or Operations experience or in Accounts Payable and Receivable function, as you will be expected to liaise and coordinate with key stakeholders including Traders and Counterparties to proactively identify and resolve invoice reconciliation discrepancies in addition to upholding strict compliance with our SOPs, trading standards, regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
To handle the oil trading-related settlements in a timely and accurate manner, which will involve:
- Settle the trading activities including but not limited to cargoes, freight, shipping costs, insurance, inspections, demurrage, brokerage, and other non-cargo costs.
- Review the trade contract terms and service agreements for settlement purposes.
- Confirm bank account details and payment amount with the trading counterparty.
- Invoices due date control, raising payment and invoices and post in SAP.
- Ensure incoming & outgoing funds receipt or payment shall value on time, AP & AR aging follow-up.
- Liaise with the trading desk and operators to resolve any potential issues or disputes to ensure accurate and timely payments and claims.
- Prepare relevant trade-related data and statistical tables.
What we’re looking for / Skills that will help you in the role
- Hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Prior experience working in a commodity trading company, utility or relevant environment ideally in a Settlements role or one with similar responsibilities such as Accounts Payable or Receivable, Trade Finance, Post Trade Services, Contracts Operations Analyst or Trade Operations Analyst.
- Sound knowledge of settlement activities, the trade life cycle and trading systems.
- Solid knowledge of accounting and finance principles.
- Numerate and highly organised with an excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively, stay calm and work well under pressure to meet competing deadlines in an environment where speed & accuracy are essential.
- Ability to build and nurture great working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate and convey thoughts and ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent problem solving and numerical skills; ability to seek information and interpret data from multiple sources in order to resolve problems or implement new processes.
And any experience of the following would be extremely useful:
- Good product knowledge and experience with Crude Oil, or LNG, Refined Products, (bio) Marine Fuel and Petrochemicals products is desirable.
- Experience dealing with trading counterparties within the oil & energy industry.
- Knowledge of Dutch Tax System is highly advantageous.
- Proficiency in SAP; S4 HANA knowledge is a strong advantage.
Please note: This is a full-time, 1 year fixed-term contract position initially, with a view of becoming permanent. The job is based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The role holder will be expected to work from the office 5 days per week.
