To help support our growing portfolio of customer solutions and programs, we are looking for someone to bring engineering and estimation expertise into our team as we are looking for a hands-on Engineering and Costing Manager to join our Amsterdam-based team. Role Overview:
As Engineering and Costing Manager, you will ensure accurate, competitive, and risk-adjusted cost estimates and planning for our projects consisting of technical installations to buildings and warehouse fit outs — driving profitability, compliance, and customer satisfaction. You will play a critical role in achieving some of our strategic ESG goals. The role involves working closely with international project managers and sales managers, as well as external vendors.
We are in the middle of rolling out a large-scale heat pump program to decarbonize 1,200 warehouses in Europe, we are seeking someone who can take the lead to improve and scale the program and support the delivery of projects in the program. This role requires both technical expertise and commercial understanding to deliver high-quality, cost-effective projects and installations across our logistics portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the heat pump rollout strategy across Europe, including vendor coordination, cost control, and technical direction — supported by our Sales and Project Management teams, but driven by you as the subject matter lead.
- Support our project management and sales teams on defining the scope of work and cost estimation of bigger and more complex turnkey move in/ out projects.
- Translate complex requirements into clear scopes of work, practical solutions, and well-structured cost estimates.
- Lead the cost estimation process for bids, tenders, and proposals.
- Request and compare vendor quotes.
- Align expectations on installation timelines, access, and preconditions.
- Clarify technical and commercial scope with customers, vendors and general contractors.
- Provide value engineering input to optimize design for more efficient installation.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and technical reviews.
- Present cost breakdowns transparently. Develop and define pricing models.
- Build cost databases from historical installation performance and productivity data.
- Identify exclusions, assumptions, and gray zones in responsibility
- Evaluate site-specific risks (e.g., building related conditions, installation obstructions, live operations).
- Interpret architectural drawings, technical documentation and requirements.
- Ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.
- Support creation of detailed project planning and installation schedules.
- Tracking and advice on latest technology.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial-, Mechanical-, Electrical-, or Energy Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of working experience in similar roles.
- A solid technical foundation — ideally in HVAC, heat pump systems, or energy infrastructure — combined with a commercial attitude.
- A genuine excitement to be part of a large-scale decarbonization mission, with the ambition to shape broader offerings in the future.
- A proactive, entrepreneurial spirit — someone who sees opportunities, not limitations
- Strong communicator, comfortable with cross-functional teams and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail, structured thinking, and a solution-oriented attitude.
- Proficiency in Excel (including modeling, pivot tables).
- Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
- Experience with warehouse material handling, automation systems, and storage solutions is a plus.
- Understanding fire safety, building codes, and regulatory requirements for warehouses is a plus.
- Fluent in English (other European languages are a plus)
- Willingness to travel occasionally within Europe
