The opportunity
As an Expert Material Science, you are part of the global material science team. Your focus will be:
- On polymer mechanics and tribology (wear and friction), and can be broadened in the areas of physical chemistry and data modeling to predict material properties for our Material Advisor.
- To lead project to build know-how and translate scientific concepts supporting our product and application development teams in the innovation challenges.
- Hypothesis-based problem solving as a structured approach from identifying topics to delivering material solutions.
- To collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams with adjacent fields of expertise and cross-functional teams to integrate new materials into industrial applications.
- To stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in material science and related fields and to collaborate with academia defining relevant scientific challenges for interns, collaborations with universities, and in public-private consortia like DPI, Dutch Polymer Institute.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- PhD (or MSc) in Polymer or Material Science.
- Strong expertise in mechanics and tribology.
- Knowledgeable in physical chemistry, physics-informed data modeling, and computational methods in the field of polymers and soft matter with application to surface chemistry, structure-property relations, and contact mechanics.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in R&D demonstrating a strong understanding and proficiency in the requisite skills and methodologies.
Software Skills:
- Proficiency in computational software such as MATLAB, Python, or similar for data analysis and modeling.
- Experience with material simulation software such as Abaqus, COMSOL, or similar.
Personal Skills:
- Innovative and creative thinker with a passion for material science.
- Excellent hypothesis-based problem solving skills being detail-oriented and analytical.
- The ability to work independently and as a team player with a positive attitude.
- Management of multiple projects, leading others, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in English is essential, as it will play a crucial role in facilitating both internal discussions and external representation within the industry.
