Financial Controller
We are looking for a Financial Controller to manage HQ budget delivery during Planning & Control cycles, working closely with budget holders to support, challenge, and ensure compliance with the budget framework. You will analyse budgets, identify trends, and provide recommendations to aid decision-making. In this role, you will oversee financial planning for HQ projects, provide expert advice to senior management, monitor spending, develop KPIs, and prepare management reports. You will also contribute to audits, financial statements, and international reporting while ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies.
You are responsible for the delivery of HQ budgets during planning and control cycles, working with budget holders like department heads to support, review, challenge, and improve budget proposals while ensuring they are in line with the agreed framework and priorities.
You actively contribute to improving financial and budget processes. You track spending, create financial indicators (KPIs) and share insights through reports.
You bring financial insights to life by translating data into clear, visual, and actionable information.
You help teams understand how financial decisions influence operational reality and strategic priorities, ensuring numbers are not just tracked, but truly understood.
You guide HQ project managers on financial planning, ensuring budgets are up to date and match organizational priorities. As an advisor to the HQ Program Committee, you provide clear financial overviews and advice to support decision-making.
You assist with the preparation of the financial statements and during audits. You ensure accurate financial reporting towards the MSF global network.
You handle compliance with laws (like VAT and financial registrations), and make sure authorization systems follow internal policies.
You foster proactive internal communication by maintaining regular contact with budget holders, project managers, and senior leadership.
Candidate profile
Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Finance Management, Accounting, or equivalent experience
At least 5 years’ experience in financial control or equivalent role
ERP experience (e.g. Dynamics), Business Intelligence experience (e.g. Power BI), AI experience
Highly developed Excel skills
Strong financial analytical skills and experience with budgeting and reporting
Strategic vision – ability to link the work of the role to the organizational objectives
Excellent communicator, fluent in English, both written and spoken, fluent in Dutch is of added value
Service orientation - Has an open-door attitude towards stakeholders and understands why people act in a certain way at a given time.

We offer
A Dutch employment contract is offered, based on 40 hours per week. The contract is for one year with renewal option, subject to good performance. This is a permanent position.
A gross monthly salary range between €4,875 and €6,711 euro depending on relevant work experience, based on a fulltime appointment.
