As Market Fundamentals Manager in Shell’s Chemicals business, you’ll play a key role in supporting a diverse product portfolio used in everyday applications—from furniture and coatings to pharmaceuticals and agro-chemicals. Operating across EMEA, the role focuses on delivering customer-centric and high-performance solutions while upgrading Shell molecules. With the chemical industry evolving rapidly—especially around sustainability—this role supports Shell’s energy transition by advancing bio-based and circular chemical solutions in collaboration with customers.

What’s the role

As the Market Fundamentals Manager, you will lead strategic market analysis to support Shell’s Chemicals business. This includes scenario development, supply-demand modeling, cost curve analysis, and cracker landscape assessments. Your role will enhance team capabilities through advanced analytics and collaboration with external consultants. You will also connect various business units to align market outlooks and shape Shell’s European chemical strategy. The insights you generate will support commercial strategies, pricing, portfolio decisions, and long-term planning, leveraging AI tools and third-party data.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will spearhead the integrated market fundamentals analytics that underpin our commercial strategies, price guidance, portfolio decisions, and medium to long-term business planning. As the market fundamentals expert, this role will provide critical insights to the Product Management team. The analytics will utilize advanced tools and data sources, incorporating AI and third-party market consultancy.

Key Responsibilities:

Analytical Tools & Upskilling:

  • Enhance the team's capability in utilizing advanced analytical tools.

  • Conduct training sessions to upskill team members in market analysis techniques.

  • Develop new ways of working to improve capabilities and efficiency.

Strategic Market Analysis:

  • Lead comprehensive market analysis, focusing on supply/demand, cash cost curves, and cracker landscape mainly for Base Chemicals.

  • Collaborate with external consultants to gather and interpret market data.

  • Deliver actionable insights on market fundamentals to support strategic planning and commercial decisions.

Cracker Landscape and Scenario Development:

  • Develop and evaluate cracker landscape scenarios for strategic project reviews, ensuring alignment with long-term business objectives.

Chemical Portfolio Strategy:

  • Assess the strategic implications of tariff changes and other external factors on the chemical portfolio, providing expert recommendations.

Market Insights & Strategic Projects:

  • Drive the development of market insights to support strategic initiatives.

  • Provide critical analysis for strategic projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Business Connectivity:

  • Serve as a liaison between different business units to ensure a unified market outlook.

  • Shape and communicate the European market narrative for Shell's chemical business.

Shareholder Representation:

  • Act as a Shareholder Representative Advisor to support the General Manager, Marketing.

  • Prepare for shareholder meetings with Blualp (Plastic recycling Company)

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred)

  • Proven experience in market analysis and strategic roles

  • Background in the Chemical or Refining industry

  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills

  • Proficient in market analysis tools and techniques

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Solid project management and organizational abilities

  • Skilled in stakeholder and consultant engagement

  • Collaborative team player with leadership capabilities

  • Adaptable, proactive, and professional in dynamic environments
