The position will be based at Teijin’s Brightlands Innovation Center (TBIC) located in Geleen, The Netherlands, which directly reports to the Environmental Solution Division of Teijin Limited in Tokyo (Japan). This role gives an opportunity to play a key role in the development of new materials enabling energy transition with a focus on electrochemical applications, CO2 capture and conversion, and water treatment.
Position, Scope, Responsibilities and Qualifications:

Researcher Scientist at the Brightlands Innovation Center (TBIC), part of the Environmental Solution Division (ESD) of Teijin Ltd. Reporting to Director Teijin Brightlands Innovation Center (TBIC), based in Geleen, The Netherlands.
Scope:
We are looking for a curious and hands-on Research Scientist with a passion for developing and testing advanced materials for electrochemical applications. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team working on innovative solutions in the field of sustainability and clean energy. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys making new materials, testing their performance, and building experimental setups to explore new ideas.
Responsibilities:
- Design, synthesize, and manufacture ion exchange membranes, electrodes, and membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs).
- Develop and build electrochemical cells and custom test setups.
- Perform electrochemical and physical testing to evaluate material performance (e.g., performance, durability, conductivity).
- Analyze experimental data and contribute to the development of new materials and processes.
- Support the growth of the electrochemical lab by helping to expand its capabilities and infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with internal and external partners in a dynamic R&D environment.
Job requirements / Qualifications:
- MSc or PhD in chemistry or a related field, with knowledge about electrochemistry is a strong requirement.
- 2-5 years of practical experience in the areas of electrocatalysis, material synthesis, electrochemical cells, water electrolysis, polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells or electrolysis.
Required Competencies:
Entrepreneurial spirit, creative, result oriented, self-motivated. Good analytical and data analysis skills. Fluent in English. Open to work in a multicultural and international team. Sense of humor.
