Environmental Sustainability
Our team contributes to ING’s Global sustainability strategy which is at the core of what we do and how we do it. Our main purpose is to become net-zero in our own operations well before 2050. We do this by implementing the most effective methodology to assess and improve our core banking operations processes through sustainability as well as creating a knowledge sharing platform across the world to ensure we share best practices and learn from each other to accelerate our contribution to planet Earth. You will be one of the key players in designing and implementing our COO sustainability strategy in the countries and globally.
Your repnsibilities
- Support the environmental footprint of the bank, and support various departments and business units to improve our footprint.
- Lead data collection and monitoring efforts, including quarterly footprint reporting.
- Support the improvement and increase of GHG reporting protocol scope and methodology improvements.
- Support annual reporting on progress for our Integrated Annual Reporting, our annual climate reporting, RE 100 reporting, UN Climate Neutral Now reporting, and through various disclosures to ESG rating agencies.
- Support the implementation of the banks Carbon Offset approach and EAC/SAF purchases
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives in the countries together with EP pillar teams - and when needed, recommend changes to close strategic gaps
- Close interaction with ING countries across the world to give support and advisory to ensure improvements through Green Guild
- Organize worldwide sustainability events to enhance commitment and engagement in the countries at the same time

- Environmental Sustainability Knowledge: Actual experience in activities for environmental sustainability and having thorough knowledge of GHG emissions, carbon footprint reduction, climate change, and sustainable development.
- Data Analysis and Interpretation: Experience with, (data)analysis, interpreting, and reporting of data related to environmental sustainability. This includes the ability to identify patterns and trends in data, and to use data to support decision-making.
- Project Management: Experience with managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, including setting priorities, managing timelines, and ensuring that tasks are completed on schedule.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas to a variety of stakeholders. This includes the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization, and to build relationships with external partners and stakeholders.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with data analysis tools and software, including Excel, PowerBI, Sphera, and other relevant software tools. The ability to work with databases, data management systems, and other technical tools is also important.
- Attention to Detail: A high level of attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to identify and correct errors in data.
- Strategic Thinking: The ability to think strategically about environmental sustainability, including identifying opportunities for improvement and developing strategies to achieve sustainability goals.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines as needed.
- Business Acumen: A good understanding of the banking industry, including knowledge of key stakeholders, market trends, and regulatory requirements related to environmental sustainability.
Skills & Education
- Master’s degree (preferably in a Sustainability related field) with a genuine interest in societal issues
- High ambition/ energy level
- Well organized and results-driven
- Perseverance (flexible hours)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in business English is required and oral proficiency in Dutch preferred
