Your role: provide HR support
As an HR Advisor at MPI, you will play a key role in reinforcing our standing as an employer of choice. This role is designed to support and advise our research and non-research departments on HR-related topics, ensuring that our practices are not only compliant with established policies but also contribute to the realization of a well-staffed, capable and motivated workforce. The HR Advisor operates within a dynamic international environment, and is essential in executing operational HR activities. With a direct reporting line to the Head of HR, the HR Advisor plays a key role in shaping the workforce to meet MPI's goals.
What you’ll do
- Offer expert advice and proactive support on a broad range of HR practices
within our institute.
- Ensure professional recruitment processes, including selection and new employee
on-boarding.
- Serve as trusted partner for management and staff, support leaders in managing performance.
- Help us to apply our compensation & benefits policies, making sure they’re fair, transparent and consistent, and in line with applicable German collective labour agreement (TVöD).
- Drive MPI’s key challenges and HR strategic themes in the fields of Organisational Development, Talent Management, Automation of the HR function, Social Safety and Employee Engagement.
- Identify training and development needs, organise training programs.
- Ensure legal compliance (labour law) in all aspects of our work.
- Active participation in some of our committee activities, such as Diversity,
Equity & Inclusion and Sustainability; work closely together with our Gender Equality officers, etc.

The ideal candidate
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Human Resource Management.
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
- Advanced experience with all HR subjects, ideally in a research or academic setting.
- A demonstrable supportive and positive mind-set, or “can-do” mentality.
- Experience with HR Information Systems, SAP HR / SuccessFactors and digitization
of workflows.
- Strong language skills, excellent working knowledge of Dutch, English and German.
Your regular workplace is Nijmegen, where your office will be in our Operations department. Although hybrid working is possible, we believe this role is best performed with frequent on-site presence.

The salary is in accordance with the German collective labour agreement TVöD (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst) and is classified in salary group E10. Depending on the experience of the applicant, the salary is between EUR 4.012,19 and EUR 4.664,10 gross per month (for full-time employment), plus a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross salary. This equates to EUR 51.997,98 - EUR 60.446,74 per year, including holiday allowance. Our offer contains a one-year contract with intention for permanent employment, pension scheme, 30 holidays and multiple training opportunities.

The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics is a world-leading research institute devoted to interdisciplinary studies of the science of language and communication, including departments on genetics, psychology, development, neurobiology and multimodality of these fundamental human abilities.
We investigate how children and adults acquire their language(s), how speaking and listening happen in real time, how the brain processes language, how the human genome contributes to building a language-ready brain, how multiple modalities (as in speech, gesture and sign) shape language and its use in diverse languages and how language is related to cognition and culture, and shaped by evolution.
