As part of our research line on ‘De-escalation of Radiology’, we investigate how to optimize imaging practices, by –evidence based- reduction of imaging (CT, ultrasound, MRI, PET scans) that provide minimal benefit or may even cause harm to cancer patients. By systematically evaluating imaging practices using real world data (RWD), we take a data-driven approach to identify and de-escalate low-value use of imaging. This will improve both patient outcomes and promote efficient use of healthcare resources without compromising the quality of care.
In the research project, you will analyze real-world hospital data from cancer patients treated at the NKI-AVL. You will investigate both the clinical value of imaging, as well as the impact of imaging on other outcomes, such as costs and labor. This project provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on research experience in a multi-disciplinary setting, and develop skills in quantitative data analysis and health technology assessment. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team, and collaborate with radiologists, clinicians, surgeons and researchers with Prof.dr. Lenny Verkooijen and Prof.dr. Valesca Retèl.

We seek highly motivated, enthusiastic and ambitious master students with a strong affinity for quantitative research.
We are searching for master students with the following expertise and experience:
Master student in Health Sciences OR Health Economics OR Medicine OR Epidemiology OR related master program
You are interested and have experience in quantitative research in the field of health care (our connection with the clinic is strong);
Affinity or experience in the field of radiology is preferred
Understanding of the Dutch language is preferred.
