Background:
Due to the temporary absence of a key team member, we are seeking a highly capable and experienced procurement professional to step in and support the Direct Procurement function at Össur. The role will report directly to the VP of Global Procurement and temporarily assume the responsibilities previously held by our Direct Procurement Category Lead.
This is a critical role focused on continuity of supplier management, and strategic category execution, particularly in high-impact areas such as our supplier quality, sustainability projects, packaging and third-party goods.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team & Operational Oversight
Support Direct Procurement Category Strategy
Ensure timely execution of sourcing projects and stakeholder engagement
2. Category Management – Strategic Focus Areas
Packaging Category Management (Global):
Oversee sourcing strategy and supplier relationships for all packaging materials (primary, secondary, tertiary) across global manufacturing and distribution sites
Drive Existing RFQs and cost reduction initiatives with sustainability targets
Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Quality to align packaging innovation with supplier capabilities
Outsourced 3rd Party Goods (Global):
Manage supplier base for finished goods and OEM production
Ensure contractual and commercial clarity with strategic partners
Support initiatives around dual sourcing, lead time reduction, and margin improvement
Engage with Planning, Regulatory, and Product Management functions to manage supplier transitions or escalations
3. Supplier Quality Management (Quarterly Evaluations)
Ensure that Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) and Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) are effectively managed, tracked, and closed in a timely manner to address any quality issues identified during evaluations.
Execute and coordinate and review quarterly supplier quality evaluations across all direct material categories
Interface with Quality and Engineering to ensure supplier performance data is accurately captured and scored
Lead or support supplier review meetings and corrective action planning
4. Supplier ESG Evaluations
Lead and execute the quarterly Supplier ESG Assessment process for Direct Procurement
Ensure all key suppliers are reviewed against environmental, social, and governance criteria
Liaise with Össur’s Global ESG and Sustainability team to align on targets, reporting standards, and improvement tracking
Support supplier engagement and follow-up action plans where ESG gaps are identified
5. Cross-functional Collaboration
Act as the key point of contact for Quality, Operations, Logistics, Finance, and Product Development regarding all topics related to direct procurement
Participate in regular procurement leadership meetings and report on progress, risks, and improvement initiatives
Engage in supplier escalations and serve as a decision-maker in time-sensitive procurement matters
6. Support all Changes with transfer team and support category managers with their vendor SCARs
Required Skills and Experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience in Procurement, with at least 2 years in a lead strategic category role
Proven experience managing global supply categories, especially Packaging and Finished Goods/OEMs
Strong understanding of supplier quality and ESG frameworks
Excellent analytical, negotiation, and project management skills
Ability to communicate effectively across levels and functions
Hands-on and proactive mindset; able to quickly step into a complex, fast-paced environment
Fluent in English; additional European languages (e.g., German, Dutch, or Icelandic) are a plus
Preferred Experience:
Experience in medical devices, life sciences, or regulated manufacturing
Knowledge of ERP systems (SAP, D365, or similar)
Exposure to international supply chain and regulatory frameworks
Workload Expectation:
Part time 20 hrs/week with flexibility
Candidate must be able to operate independently and take ownership of responsibilities with minimal onboarding
