Job Summary
The Senior Director of Procurement provides strategic leadership and oversight of all supply chain functions, ensuring efficiency, cost optimization, and quality across global operations. This role involves leading the purchasing team, negotiating supplier contracts, managing inventory control, and maintaining staffing levels to support operational needs. Additionally, the Sr. Director is responsible for enforcing quality standards within supply chain processes and driving procurement excellence through supplier partnerships and competitive pricing strategies. A key responsibility includes collaborating with executive leadership to facilitate global expansion efforts, ensuring the supply chain is scalable and adaptable to new markets. An overall expectation for this role is to develop and implement long term procurement strategies that align with the organization’s goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides strategic leadership for the Global Purchasing team, ensuring optimal stocking levels of critical supplies, fostering supplier relationships, and driving cost-effective procurement negotiations.
Maintains appropriate staffing levels to support supply chain operations, identifying and addressing gaps in both processes and workforce capacity.
Ensures seamless communication across multiple organizational levels regarding supply chain and inventory issues, securing necessary approvals as required.
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors.
Leads procurement negotiations, optimizing contract terms and securing the best pricing to support business objectives.
Leverages ERP systems for data analysis and informed decision-making, driving efficiencies in purchasing and inventory management.
Proactively identifies and implements process improvements to enhance operational effectiveness, and cost saving opportunities.
Oversees regular reporting of purchasing and inventory data, ensuring accuracy and timely insights on a weekly and/or monthly basis.
Ensures compliance with all LabConnect procurement policies, procedures, and regulations
Provide clear communication to leadership in regards to procurement strategies, ensuring understanding and alignment.
Executes additional responsibilities as necessary to support organizational goals.
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree is required; a Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
Degree in Supply Chain Management preferred.
8+ years experience in a regulated environment required.
8+ years experience leading people.
Proficiency in contracting and negotiation, with a track record of securing favorable agreements and building strategic partnerships.
Experience interacting with supplier websites and utilizing ERP systems.
Experience in interacting with supplier websites to streamline procurement and foster strategic supplier relationships.
Proficiency utilizing ERP systems. Experience with Microsoft NAV and Dynamics 365 Finance is a plus.
Six Sigma certification is a plus.
Language Ability
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Ability
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including word processing and spreadsheets.
Certificates and Licenses
Six Sigma certification preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The individual in this job will manage employees in the Purchasing function and will assist in the management and direction of inventory control and other work groups.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms.
