The Opportunity

We’re seeking a Managing Director to lead transformational work in industrial operations, blending strategic vision with hands-on execution. You’ll work directly with clients, tackle complex problems in manufacturing environments, and play a key role in growing FTE’s business. From shaping client engagements to developing internal capabilities, your leadership will help drive meaningful change—for both our clients and our firm.

This is a high-impact, full-time role with a pay-for-performance bonus structure and significant travel (up to 75%).

What You'll Do

Business Development

  • Blend of sales and operations leadership – expected to actively generate new business by leveraging an established professional network, while also prospecting and engaging potential clients to support the firm’s broader sales and relationship-building efforts
  • Develop business proposals, SOWs, and other reports
  • Meet gross revenue and margin targets to ensure profitability alignment
  • Direct strategic initiatives for lead generation, revenue growth, and vertical expansion
  • Implement comprehensive sales plans and leverage personal networks to secure meetings
  • Conduct market research to identify trends and implement innovative sales techniquesCase Management
  • Plan and manage multiple projects effectively
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings to define project scope, budget, and timelines
  • Drive project success from inception to delivery by overseeing team scoping, staffing, execution and risk mitigation
  • Maintain frequent client communications, visits, and customer satisfaction
  • Provide support to teams and guide efforts to deliver strategic and sustainable solutions

Firm Building

  • Engage in internal training initiatives to enhance skills and contribute to a culture of continuous learning
  • Develop intellectual capital to build the FTE brand (i.e. technology, white papers, networking)
  • Continuously work to develop, document, and improve FTE business processes and our approach and output for client casework
  • Participate in annual business planning and internal project execution
  • Participate in vetting of candidates seeking to join FTE’s Core Team or Advisory Network

What You'll Bring

  • 15+ years of diverse work experience as a manager within one or more of the following disciplines: Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Factory Operations, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or Quality Engineering
  • Minimum 5+ years of business development and relevant Industry experience
  • Prior experience in operational management consulting or related professional services industries
  • Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering
  • Ability to articulate solutions to clients at all organizational levels
  • Collaborate with internal teams to tailor solutions addressing client needs
  • Strong communication skills in oral, written, and presentation formats
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing high-performing teams under tight deadlines and dynamic conditions
  • A strategic mindset with a history of developing and executing growth-focused initiatives
  • A natural relationship-builder who drives engagement across internal teams, clients, and external partners
  • Strong negotiation capabilities, with a keen ability to balance client objectives and business outcomes
  • A passion for coaching and mentoring others to solve complex challenges and grow professionally
  • Confidence and polish as a facilitator, able to lead client sessions and communicate with clarity and impact
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred

Bonus Points if You Have

  • Industry background in Aerospace & Defense
  • Active Security Clearance
  • Proven experience in coaching problem-solving skills (quantitative, conceptual, analytical)
  • Proven ability to deliver results through influential leadership vs. positional power
  • Experience with CRM software, particularly HubSpot
