Purpose of Role
Based in Amsterdam at EMEA Headquarters, the Lead, Payroll EMEA is a key member of the Global Payroll team with accountability and ownership of Under Armour’s EMEA payrolls across 9 countries.
The role partner’s closely with Human Resources, Accounting and other key stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing and reporting and will be the subject matter expert on all payroll processing matters for the region. This position will impact a rapidly growing organization as well as opportunities to streamline (manual) processes and systems.
The Lead, Payroll EMEA reports directly to the Director Global Payroll based in USA, with a dotted line to the Senior Director, HR EMEA based in Amsterdam.
Your Impact
- Manage the end-to-end payroll processing for all countries across the EMEA region
- Work side by side with various in-country payroll partners to ensure teammates throughout the region are paid accurately and timely
- Continued enhancement of process flow for all payroll processes to ensure the most streamlined and efficient payroll management
- Research and investigate payroll issues and other escalated payroll inquiries by collaborating with key stakeholders to problem solve and execute the best solution in a timely manner as well as put in place mitigation plans for future controls and accuracy
- Advise on payroll controls, risk and governance as it pertains to the countries within Region
- Prepare payroll accounting entries to ensure accurate reporting and posting to the General Ledger
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (including Global and Regional HR, Accounting and FP&A Teams etc.) and maintain alignment with all parties throughout the payroll cycle
- Function as a strategic partner and contribute system and process improvements for all key system implementations and upgrades
- Facilitate regular data audits, in partnership with Regional HR Administration
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures/job aids and checklists to ensure that policies and procedures are being adhered to.
Qualifications
- More than 5 years experience of processing multi-country payrolls in a European context
- Strong demonstrated working knowledge and experience of local markets, laws, regulations and best practice across European countries. Netherlands experience is a must with UK/Ireland and Germany payrolls highly preferred. Spain, Austria, France, Portugal and Italy highly beneficial.
- Bachelor or Masters degree in Payroll, Finance, Accounting or other relevant field;
- Fluent in business level Dutch and English, with other European languages strongly preferred.
- Exposure to Retail sector/employee population highly advantageous.
- Ability to work under own initiative and take high accountability for the full payroll cycle
- Strong ability to partner with various stakeholders and drive successful collaboration and outcomes in a matrix organization
- Maintains a keen eye for detail; demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
- High degree of integrity and honesty; ability to exercise confidentiality and neutrality in complex and sensitive situations
- Maintains a clear and consistent system of organization, completes daily and long-term tasks through effective prioritization and time management
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written and is able to effectively communicate and partner with team members of all levels across the organization.
- Proactively identifies and elevates issues in a timely manner; makes suggestions and recommendations for possible resolution
- Comfort with navigating ambiguity and process maturity to drive improvements and execution
- Sound project management skills to lead and/or strategically participate in wider organizational programs and system/process improvements
- Real passion for problem solving; showing resilience in driving improvements across systems, processes, documentation and ways of working
- Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites
- Experience with ADP vendor management and systems
- Familiarity with SuccessFactors and other HR Systems is highly advantageous
Workplace Location
- Location: This individual must reside within commuting distance from our Amsterdam office.
- Work Schedule: Starting in October, teammates are required to work on-site for 3 days per week. This will increase to 4 days per week beginning January 2026.
