The British School of Amsterdam is seeking to appoint an experienced PA/Secretary for a professional and confidential role supporting the school's Management Board (School Principal and Bursar) and Supervisory Board, with additional responsibility for facilitating communications school-wide and with the wider school community.
This is a full-time role, based on-site at our school in Amsterdam. A high level of administrative skill and fluency in English are essential. Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the Netherlands and should reside within commuting distance of the school. Unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment
What you will do
The PA / Secretary ensures the efficient, smooth and confidential operation of the Principal's and Bursar's offices and daily business, as well as all aspects of operational management at the school including coordinating calendar appointments, managing communications, and planning events, as necessary.
They will also provide confidential support to the school's Supervisory Board, with involvement in board meetings, detailing of minutes, secure storage of files and documents, and facilitating confidential communication between Supervisory Board, Management Board, and stakeholders.
Within the school, the PA/Secretary is responsible for facilitating regular communication across the Management Board (MB), Operational Leadership Team (OLT), academic staff, and support departments, and will also provide coordination & support with communication across the wider school community.
About You
You’re an experienced PA / Secretary with excellent administrative skills and an understanding of the structures, responsibilities and practices of good governance. You will ideally have some knowledge of how Supervisory and Management Boards function.
You'll have a high level of fluency in English (written & verbal).
You'll have experience and a preference to work in an international environment.
You may already have some exposure to the British education system and/or the international education sector (a definite advantage).
Qualifications and Experience
- HBO or Bachelor's degree or similar (preferred)
- High level of fluency in English
- Dutch language skills useful
- Proven work experience in a similar level role
- Understanding of corporate governance and how Supervisory & Management Boards function
- Knowledge of international education sector (preferred)
- Experience or understanding of the British educational system (preferred)
- Experience working in an international environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong administration, organizational, and time management skills
- High level of proficiency in computer skills (especially Google Suite)
- Able to prioritize and multi-task, and works well to deadlines
- Highly discreet, confidential and professional
