We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Senior Project / Facilities Engineer to join our team at Vermilion Energy Netherlands (Amsterdam). In this role, you will represent VEN’s interests in all aspects of facilities engineering for both construction and operational projects. You’ll be responsible for providing technical and regulatory advice, ensuring adherence to codes and best practices, and managing assigned projects from initial concept through to the turnover of construction documents.
You will play an essential role during the construction phase, supporting throughout project commissioning, as-built documentation, and project closeout. Additionally, any technical matters arising during the operational lifecycle of facilities may be assigned to you, requiring insight into technical issues and follow-up on necessary changes.
What you will do:
Facility Engineering
Provide technical engineering support to the NBU and represent facility engineering in necessary multi-discipline meetings at all stages of project development
Work together with different VEN departments (Operations, Maintenance, HSE…) on project scope definition
Review and work with independent 3rd party contractors in all aspects of facility layout, design and specification, review third party designs and optimize as required to ensure that VEN best practices and standards are met with fit for purpose solutions.
Provide technical input and participate in drawing reviews, HAZOPS, HAZIDS, WHATIF analysis, SIMOPS, etc and provide technical feedback from a facility aspects
Complete engineering in house when applicable and/or able
Use technical knowledge to ensure safety, compliance and operability are achieved on all projects
Project Management
Manage projects from concept through to construction and hand-over including budget, schedule and scope control.
Ensure projects are driven home in a timely, cost effective and safe manner – strive to drive costs out of the business
Raise AFE’s and track project costs against those AFE’s
Identify, mitigate and manage project risks throughout the project phase
Develop and maintain good relations with Vendors, Contractors and Suppliers
Execute lessons learned sessions upon project completion
Operations and maintenance support
Initiate (when required) and complete MoC’s and action items from a technical perspective
Assist operations with any technical issues and provide engineering support and solutions either personally or by seeking third party help and managing that third party with clear scope and deliverables
Take an active role in plant layout and process safety/control discussions and ensure that best practices and VEN engineering standards are applied to all facilities projects in the facilities team
Be a leader in proactively providing advice or solutions to save costs or increase efficiencies in operations
Additional Responsibilities
Be a visible HSE leader conducting site visits and documenting observations and HAZIDS proactively driving a safe culture to everyone involved within a VEN operation including contractors
Review technical documentation for accuracy and completeness and provide markups, feedback and recommendations/comments in a timely manner
Verify key documents, various specifications, plans, and other technical drawings
Troubleshoot operational / process related problems and propose solutions together with cost and time schedules
Provide regular updates and progress reports, produce man hour estimates for the facilities engineering work and track against that estimate when required
Provide project close out reports and full close out documentation when required
Conduct additional duties as required by the team lead engineering
What you will bring
10+ years relevant industry experience, with emphasis on project management of oil and gas facilities projects
Understanding of HSE and Asset Integrity Management System structures
Efficient and precise communication as the position requires interaction with team members, service companies and regulatory agencies
Strong interpersonal, leadership and critical analysis skills
Strong team player with the ability to build relationships and work constructively with others to achieve business goals
Oil & gas Process/Chemical Engineering background preferred
