Team leader for the Contaminants-1 team

Wageningen University & Research
Gelderland
Full time
3 weken geleden
Are you an experienced manager with strong communication and organizational skills, even in situations where quick decision-making is essential?

You combine collaborative leadership with clarity: you inspire others and are not afraid to provide direction. Do you also have a passion for healthy and safe food and an affinity for working in a chemical laboratory? Are you fluent in both Dutch and English? If so, you might be our new colleague. At Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR), we are currently looking for a new team leader for the Contaminants-1 team.

Where will you be working?
Wageningen Food Safety Research conducts research into safe and reliable food. We are specialists in (forensic) measurements and develop analytical methods to detect undesirable substances in food. We have state-of-the-art LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, and HRMS facilities. The Contaminants-1 team analyzes various food products, raw materials for food, and animal feed for substances such as dioxins and PFAS. In addition to planned analysis and research work, we regularly handle urgent samples. This demands a great deal of flexibility from all team members.

The Contaminants-1 team is one of six teams within the Contaminants & Toxicology business unit. This unit not only performs research and routine analyses of food and feed, but also conducts analytical-chemical research and develops new chemical analysis methods.

What will you do?
As team leader, your focus is on the optimal functioning of your team members and the development of the team as a whole. You ensure that your team can perform their work well in a pleasant and safe working environment. You hold full responsibility for your team of around 25 professionals. This means that you not only focus on your own tasks but also take joint responsibility for the entire process with your colleagues. You think proactively, see the big picture, and act in the interest of shared results. In doing so, we build a strong, cohesive working method where quality and collaboration are central.

Your responsibilities as team leader include:
  • Safeguarding the scientific and technical quality of the chemical analyses your team delivers. You organize the work processes in such a way that the team can achieve optimal results, with everyone taking ownership of their role;
  • Fostering the personal development, effectiveness, well-being, and job satisfaction of your team members;
  • Monitoring the quality of project execution. You oversee all projects in your team, track progress, identify bottlenecks, and make adjustments when necessary;
  • Responsibility for financial results;
  • Effectively allocating team members to projects and other tasks essential to achieving team results.
Additionally, you will be part of the management team of the business unit together with other team leaders. You will contribute to translating the WFSR vision and strategy into an annual activity plan and a strategic workforce plan for your team. You may also represent the business unit in one or more internal working groups. Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:
  • working hours that can be discussed and arranged so that they allow for the best possible work-life balance;
  • sabbatical leave, study leave, and partially paid parental leave;
  • there is a strong focus on vitality and you can make use of the sports facilities available on campus for a small fee;
  • a fixed year-end bonus of 8,3%;
  • excellent pension scheme.
In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €5092,- and €7652,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 13). Additionally, a contract for 32 hours a week can be discussed. As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended - if possible within (company) organizational circumstances - on good performance. Of course, we are happy to have a conversation with you if you have any questions about this.

Wageningen University & Research offers plenty of opportunities for growth and development, with a strong internal recruitment policy and excellent training programmes.
