Indirect Tax & VAT Specialist – International FMCG Environment
Blauw Cow partners with a leading multinational in the consumer goods industry that operates across Europe and North America. Their mission is to deliver accessible, sustainable, and high-quality products in dynamic markets. With a growing portfolio and a wide geographical footprint, they are looking for an experienced Indirect Tax & VAT Specialist to join their Amsterdam-based team.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Financial Controller of the central European hub, you will manage the VAT lifecycle for over 20 registrations across various jurisdictions. You’ll act as a pivotal point of contact for VAT matters, ensuring compliance with country-specific requirements and collaborating closely with internal tax experts, external consultants, and IT service providers.
Your Responsibilities
- Review and approve VAT filings, Intrastat reports, and EC sales listings using automated ERP output.
- Ensure timely payments and accurate reconciliation of VAT accounts, working alongside a Shared Services team.
- Serve as the go-to person for VAT-related inquiries across the organization.
- Coordinate with tax authorities on audit support for Dutch entities.
- Escalate complex tax issues to advisors and drive solutions.
- Proactively identify data and process errors; work across teams to implement corrective actions.
- Streamline and align VAT and Intrastat procedures across the business.
- Oversee country-specific e-invoicing obligations (e.g. SAF-T, SII) and ensure technical readiness in cooperation with IT and tax teams.
- Maintain accurate VAT positions for both internal reviews and external audits.
- Support the management of cross-border trade setups within the supply chain.
- Assist in integrating environmental tax reporting with indirect tax workflows.
Who You Are
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in indirect tax control or VAT accounting in an international setting.
- Background in working with Shared Service Centers is essential.
- Strong Excel and SAP skills.
- Analytical, detail-oriented, and organized with a proactive mindset.
- Adaptable to shifting requirements and regulatory changes.
- Excellent communication skills in English; able to collaborate across functions and cultures.
- Resilient under pressure and capable of handling multiple priorities.
- Team-oriented with a drive for process improvement and problem-solving.
